Meet Dr. Andrew Kamenski

A Grand Junction native, Dr. Andrew Kamenski has spent his career caring for the community he grew up in. After studying at the University of Colorado Boulder and earning his Doctor of Optometry degree in Memphis, he returned home to begin what has become a 15-year journey of helping patients see and feel their best. Dr. Kamenski is known for his thoughtful, thorough approach and his commitment to using the latest eye care technology. He’s passionate about bringing advanced treatments — such as dry eye therapy and therapeutic contact lens care — to patients right here in the Grand Valley. Outside the office, Dr. Kamenski is a devoted husband and father of two young children. Whether he’s mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping, or simply spending time with his family, he enjoys everything the Western Slope has to offer. Dr. Andrew McKenzie is a children’s eye care specialist with the training and experience necessary to meet the eye care and eye health needs of the young family. Dr. McKenzie is originally from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Pacific University and Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. By virtue of exceptional academic achievement, Dr. McKenzie was granted membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the International Optometric Honor Society, in 1993. After graduation, Dr. McKenzie moved to Grand Junction, his wife’s hometown, to begin practice. In his many years in practice, he has developed a love for working with kids and young families, providing fun and informative eye exams that are thorough and patient-friendly.
Dr. McKenzie is an active member of the American Optometry Association and the Colorado Optometric Association. Many people find a good eye doctor simply by getting a referral from someone else. Dr. McKenzie has an outstanding reputation and is pleased to receive referrals from his many satisfied patients.
Meet Dr. Steve Bethka
Location: Valley Vision Center
Dr. Steven Bethka is an experienced, licensed optometrist who builds long-standing patient relationships because he is friendly, compassionate, and easy to talk to. Dr. Bethka grew up in in the wilds of Anchorage Alaska, but completed his undergraduate studies right here at Mesa State College. He did his graduate work at Pacific University and Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr. Bethka started practicing here in Grand Junction in 1988 and finds this community to be an ideal place for his family to enjoy outdoor activities. Over the years, Dr. Bethka has found that he is particularly skilled in custom and technically challenging contact lens fitting, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
Dr. Bethka is certified in LASIK co-management, and also specializes in screening for glaucoma and cataract surgery co-management. He is an active member of the American Optometry Association and the Colorado Optometric Association. Steve is President of the Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club and is a Past Cubmaster of Pack 316. Dr. Bethka gives back to the community as a member of the Guy’s Giving Club. Dr. Bethka is glad to take on new patients, so him give a call and set-up your eye exam today.
Meet Dr. George Tull
Location: Valley Vision Center
Dr. George Tull, Jr. is our most experienced optometrist and beloved by his many loyal patients for the time and care he puts into every eye exam. Dr. Tull is originally from Colorado Springs, but traveled back east to get his undergraduate degree from George Washington University. He did his graduate work at the Illinois College of Optometry and then went on to serve in the United States Navy. Dr. Tull served as a Lieutenant in the Medical Services Corps stationed out of the Great Lakes Naval Base. After his military service, Dr. Tull returned to Colorado to practice privately. Dr. Tull practiced for many years here in Grand Junction at Mesa Optical, but has been caring for patients at Valley Vision Center since 2014.
Dr. Tull is particularly skilled in problem solving difficult eye-related medical problems. He specializes in geriatric eye care and has a reputation built on his compassionate and thorough care for his patients’ vision. Dr. Tull is an active member of the American Optometry Association and the Colorado Optometric Association. George is a passionate fly-fisherman and is happy to share a few of his “fish stories” with you.
Meet Dr. Jesse Allen
Location: Valley Vision Downtown
Jesse Allen, OD earned her Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University, Oregon. She has a strong interest in ocular pathology and received extensive training through externships in primary eye care, ocular disease management, and surgical co-management. Dr. Allen is also an active member of the American Optometric Association.
Though originally from East Texas, Dr. Allen spent many years in Oregon for her professional training before settling on Colorado’s Western Slope, where she was drawn by the opportunity to provide medically focused eye care and enjoy the region’s year-round outdoor lifestyle. When she’s not in the clinic, she loves getting outside, running, cooking and exploring new cuisines, tending to her plants, creating art and music, and spending meaningful time with friends and family.
